I bought this to use in my grill and in my smoker. There are a number of others you can choose from, all on or about the same size as this. Give or take an inch or two. This box, which measures 9 inches long, about 3 inches wide and close to 2 inches deep is really sufficient to get the job done in either a grill or smoker. What makes the difference is the type wood you use, and how you use it. If you buy the shredded wood, no problems at all. Just soak the wood good in water, make sure the coals are hot when you place the box on the coals. If you order the wrong type wood chips, then you might have a problem. Some of the wood chips come in large CHUNKS. It depends completely on you and the wood chips you buy. As far as the smoker box, it works perfectly. I've been using it for some time now, and it holds up well. This is a case where there really is no point in paying a lot of money for something that your literally going to burn. The box holds up well. And you really don't need any more smoke than what is coming from this box unless you have a HUGE smoker. And I mean a HUGE smoker. Paying more for one with a hinged lid, or a handle that is going to be too darn hot to grab is really a waste of money.. This will get the job done.
