Works well. Happy with purchase.I use this in automotive vents while doing air conditioning work in my shop. Perfect for taking the temperature before and after repairs. Excellent price.A+I used this thermometer for several years in food preparation with a non-profit organization and I had a separate one for cooking food on the grill at home. I have found it to be a durable reliable instrument for obtaining the temperature of hot and cold food. It has an on-off switch and a L.E.D display that updates the temperature about every second. The thermometer will turn itself off automatically after a few seconds to save the battery. By pushing a button you can change the readout from Fahrenheit to centigrade. It has a protective case with a handy pocket clip. It is important to note that you cannot use this thermometer in the oven, microwave, and it is not dishwater safe. You cannot calibrate it. I ensure that I clean it after every use and I use an alcohol pad to sanitize before putting it back in the protective sleeve. Potential buyers should be aware that this thermometer is for general food preparation. I would recommend a model that is waterproof and specifically designed for professional culinary for any other use.I would also point out that a number of customer reviews are as much as ten years old. This thermometer is not the same device and some of the reviewer comments are no longer valid. I have had great success with my thermometers and I would recommend them for household use. This is a nice little thermometer which meets specs on everyting except response time. Spec says 1 second but mine is actually 15-30 seconds. It does a pretty good job, overall, but sometimes the readings will be off. I check a meat product and the thermometer says 138. I remove and reinsert, and it immediately says 167. I have not moved, changed insertion point, or anything. It's happened a few times. It's also tough to see whether it's set to F or C, but then again, my eyesight is not what it used to be!Have used this probably 3-4 times. Pulled it out to check the turkey this weekend and the battery was dead. It shuts off automatically so I was surprised that it was dead after 3-4 uses.As others have said, this really can't be described as an "instant read" thermometer. Before I bought it, I was thinking that it would take a moment to calculate, then display the temperature right away. What it actually does is slowly climb. It does jump in the beginning, like from 0 to 100, but as it gets closer to the right temp, it definitely slows down. I don't know why that happens, but you can literally watch it tick up from 137.1 to 137.2, and so on and so forth. Usually by that point I just yank it out and say it's close enough, which is hardly instant. :)That said, I don't think it takes two minutes to read, as another reviewer opined, though as I said it takes longer the higher it climbs, so maybe if you're cooking really hot stuff it might. For most of the normal temps I'd estimate it at about 30 seconds. It just feels longer because you have to stand and stare at it. :) Not a great product, but if you don't mind a little waiting, it's quite cheap, and it will get the job done eventually.By the way, I agree the on/off switch is quite small, but I don't have a problem with it. If you have nails you might, though. Happy cooking!Great thermometer; near instant temp reading. Very easy to useCap to access battery little weak, will open if drop 2-3 feets and now will have to re-solder sensor wiring cause they broke at 2nd fall while cap open. Had max 0.3°C error on three different device, so accurate, all plastic pocket holder will not secure hold off thermometer if upside down when bending. ( older style had a metal clip that would hold it ) but price very low for very good accuracy, juste a little fragile. This thermometer takes SO LONG to get a reading. I'm super disappointed in this product. It literally takes upwards of 10 seconds for it to get a temperature reading of liquids.I realise that they are cheaper than most digital thermometers however I do expect them to be good for more than one use. 1 was broken on arrival, 2 broke after the first use, 2 more broke in the weeks that followed. Down to 1 left out of 6!Garbage, does not stay on when I press the on button. Not reccomended, save your money buy anything else.
