I bought this because it was cheaper than the Big Green Egg branded cast iron. I expected something comparable. What I got is not the same. First and foremost this grate is made in China. I would not have purchased it had I known that up front. The grate claims to be "matte cast iron". I don't know what that is supposed to mean, but it is covered by a glossy enamel which is the exact opposite of any matte finish I have ever seen. It might be cast iron, but because of the finish it's hard to know for sure. If you are looking at this item thinking it is like the product offered by BGE, it's not. Spend the extra money and get the real thing. One good thing is that it does fit perfectly on the egg.
