After discovering the joys of kamado grill cooking, I decided to continue to expand my culinary/cooking palette and skill set. While browsing Amazon I came across this book and, having heard nothing about salt block cooking, decided to give it a try. The introduction gives a great set up for the introductory salt block cooker, and includes some history of the block as well as supplementary tools one may need to satisfactorily cook on salt blocks. Yes, blocks! Fortunately, the book offers advice as to which type of block to purchase, and guides you through the process. The preparation being finished, and my fears having been alleviated, I could now move on to the recipes themselves. The recipes are divided into six sections, and each one is delicious. The book has sections on appetizers, meats, breads, veggies, seafood, and sweet treats (desserts). So far I've tried about 5 savory recipes and 4 sweet ones, and they have all been delicious! I love the salty flavor that the block is able to impart, without allowing it to become overwhelming. No matter the method of cooking, I've done grill and oven, but stove and others are also possible, the food has turned out well-cooked, delicious, and unique. The recipes are easy to follow, detailed, and includes notes and tips as needed. The two authors are clearly food-lovers, and one even went to cooking school and has authored other books on cooking. I would highly recommend this book to those interested in salt block cooking, or cooking in general.
